10 tips to reduce clutter and get organized

i like folks that are real and down-to-earth.

when i read #3 on this list of 10 tips to reduce clutter and get organized from simpleorganizedlife.com, i was hooked.

3. Boxes, boxes, boxes – I am a huge fan of storage in the house. Even if you have tons of crap, having it in boxes makes it look and feel more manageable. However, I don’t pay for any storage containers – I use shoe boxes, shipping boxes, etc. Why not use the free stuff instead of spending money on the plastic versions?

we have a number of boxes, boxes, boxes in our storage room downstairs.  after reading #3, i feel a little bit better about them.

Doesn’t having lots of boxes encourage you to toss things into them instead of making a proper decision and getting rid of what you don’t need in the first place? I’m a fan of having nice boxes to store what you actually need and use, but not of buying lots of indiscriminate storage, because it’s so tempting to fill it!

I completely agree with you!! I especially enjoy having matching see-through glass canisters to store food in, You’ll always know when to stock up (and discourage from over-buying). I tend to buy very expensive coffee, and people always comment, but I like it! now they can’t see what coffee I buy, so I don’t get judged or make people feel conscious. Same goes for the cheap brands too :-)

I bought boxes for my hobby items. My husband found a great product at his machine tools supplier and we bought several sets of 15 boxes each. The boxes stack in an alternating pattern and any box can be removed from the stack without shifting them. My items are organized, labeled, and easy to access, The lids flip up, but stay on the boxes, so I don’t have to find them when I am done.

They sit neatly on my shelves, and I can reach whatever I need without having to take more than a couple of steps. The boxes are clear, and some people might find it visually busy, but I love all the color and texture visible.
