Some things are worth owning even if you hope/expect to NEVER use them: a fire extinguisher comes to mind. On a voluntary simplicity page I can't find now, I read an advocation of owning useful things, beautiful things and emergency supplies. I don’t really expect to be trapped in my house any time soon. :)
