I brought all my possessions in 2 backpacks with me to Australia and New Zealand. It was an unforgettable time and just plain amazing. I loved the freedom. Now that I am back stateside, I actually have less stuff surprisingly. Sure I have furniture and stuff but it would take but a day to sell that online. As for personal belongings, definitely less than 2 bags now. I definitely suggest 'launching out' but I say you should try it earlier with your kids. I have 2 kids, but my husband and I are planning to see the world - we're saving and planning in that direction already. When our kids are bigger (our oldest will be 18 in 5 years...but who's counting?!
