For the last seven years, I have been compiling and publishing curated articles that inspire simplicity in life. At first, it was an exercise in communicating to Becoming Minimalist readers the most popular articles I sent out on Twitter.
But over the years, it has become more than that. It has become a place where people (every other week) come for a dose of inspiration. And it has become a place to promote and encourage writers around the world who are publishing content about minimalism, simplicity, and intentional living.
I think you will enjoy this collection of articles hand-selected for you this weekend. Grab some coffee, tea, or lemonade and be inspired to live a simpler life today.
The Heartbreaking Effects of Being Only Partly Committed to Most Things | Zen Habits by Leo Babauta. If we’re absolutely honest with ourselves, most of us are only half-committed to most things — in many cases, much less than half-committed.
This Is What Happens When You Simplify Your Life | Medium by John Weiss. The two things you need to get more out of life.
Stop Overdosing on Celebrity Gossip, The News, and Low Quality Information | James Clear by James Clear. Time and energy that is wasted consuming is time and energy that can’t be spent creating.
Advertising Makes Us Unhappy | Harvard Business Review by Nicole Torres. When advertisers pour money into a country, the result is diminished well-being for the people living there.

I am a bit offended (or flustered)….There are days where I watch your U=Tube videos, read your blogs and magazine. where I just feel completely inadequate compared to how great you are,…I know that it is a work in progress but sometimes I am really feeling bad. I am trying to improve my home by decluttering and I have a GREAT thrift store that all goes to. Just somewhat discouraging.

I really like watching his videos but like anything and anyone else, we see the “best” of his life and compare it to the “worst” of ours. You have to remember he is a teacher…he’s not perfect. I know when that’s all we see it’s hard to think of them as human….more like super human. But he has his off days too….I know exactly how you feel, but maybe if you remember that it won’t be so bad…..keep up the good work. It is definitely a work in progress…I’m right there with you. I get so discouraged as well. But it will all come together.

I am recognizing by a growing discontent deep down that I have a complex schedule with many moving parts and too many interests/distractions. I want to do it all and end up doing little well.
I signed up for your weekly email several weeks ago and am finally acting on the need to simplify.
Thank you for committing to this perspective and sharing with us!
Grateful!
Now on to decluttering the upstairs bedroom and computer desk!

I always read one or more of these articles with my Sunday breakfast. :) The first article on commitment pinpoints exactly how i have been for the last few years since my husband passed. My adult kids think i am flaky, my new partner thinks i am “hedging my bets”, it is a wonder i have kept my job! . I am a 50 something so mid-life crisis not unusual right ;) ? Thanks Josh for all the info and email “reminders” because everytime i have moved i have less stuff. I am moving again in a couple of weeks, so this time around going to get reeealll serious with what i want my future to look like. :)
