Fill your life with stories to tell, not stuff to show.
The simplicity/minimalism movement is a beautiful community. And I enjoy any opportunity to promote writing that encourages people to live more by owning less.
So fix yourself a nice warm cup of coffee or tea. Find a quiet moment this weekend. And enjoy some encouraging words to inspire more simplicity in your life today.
Minimalism: The Lean Life | Mnmlist by Leo Babauta. In my experience, living a leaner life leads to greater freedom, lightness, happiness and peace.
Becoming A Minimalist Is (Literally) Saving My Sanity | Scary Mommy by Jorrie Varney. A collection of things isn’t necessarily bad, but for me, things began to take over my life.
How A Shopping Break Can Redraw The Line Between Want And Need | The Good Trade by Sophie Benson. Shopping is so entrenched in our culture that the lines between want and need have become blurred.
‘Distraction From Happiness’ | InForum by Alexandra Floersch. I attended middle school and high school in North Dakota—just south of Fargo. Here’s a fun little interview I just did with the hometown newspaper.
You’re from Whapeton?? I had no idea! My family’s from Hankinson – most of them still live there.
Love your blog posts – I appreciate the reminders and perspectives you bring.
Sorry for the misspelling!

I love the Scary Mommy piece. Minimalism has been so ridonkulously helpful in managing my anxiety. I moved from tackling physical clutter to mental clutter, using the minimalist philosophy as the basis.
Boom! Life radically altered.
Yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly!
Very inspiring.

Thank you Joshua! Keep on sharing.
I agree about borrowing. I had family visit and because I don’t drink coffee, I don’t own a coffee pot. I was able to borrow from my awesome neighbor.
Very well curated Weekend Reads. Thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed the InForum piece. Great idea to just borrow stuff from neighbors, like an extra chair, when temporarily needed. We just moved, which forced us to purge even more stuff. It’s quite liberating!
Love reading the weekend reads-very Inspiring! I am also interested in the Hope Effect. One thought while reading about Wants which was excellent also-I always hear a lot of criticism about large houses in the minimalist community, but in our area many people with larger homes are multigenerational with grandparents living with their kids to avoid nursing home care and newlyweds saving money to avoid debt by living with parents…..
Always waiting for weekend reads! Thanks for sharing! God bless you and your family!
