Fill your life with stories to tell, not stuff to show.
The simplicity/minimalism movement is a beautiful community. And I enjoy any opportunity to promote writing that encourages people to live more by owning less.
So fix yourself a nice warm cup of coffee or tea. Find a quiet moment this weekend. And enjoy some encouraging words to inspire more simplicity in your life today.
Americans don’t like to buy stuff anymore – and that’s a problem | Yahoo Finance by Rick Newman. The shift in attitudes among young people is most striking.
Fear Is Why We Have Too Much Stuff | Zen Habits by Leo Babauta. Fear is what causes us to buy things we don’t really need. Fear keeps us holding onto stuff we don’t need.
Collect Memories, Not Stuff | No Sidebar by Kerry Ogden. When it comes to ridding life of extraneous things, these three questions are instrumental.
Great article thanks Josh!
Same issue as the most recent posters, put in my Amazon receipt number but keep getting sent back to the signup page.
I tried it again after about 30 minutes, starting over, and it worked, so maybe some of the other posters might want to try again :)
I’ve also preordered the book via Amazon, and tried to sign up for the course. I keep getting sent back to the signup page. It doesn’t seems to be accepting my submission. Please advise! I really want to participate.
Having same issue. Ordered book but when I click “get free access now” after entering the receipt number, I am redirected back to the step 1 page. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have preordered the book through Amazon but having problems entering my receipt number. Just want to make sure
I get registered for this awesome class!
I ordered the book, I have the receipt from Amazon, but when I put it in I’m just taken back to the same page. I’ve tried 4 times. I don’t know what I’m doing incorrectly, and it is a bit stressful, honestly. I ordered on January 6 receipt #: D0177088620464620 any assistance is appreciated.
I have ordered your book from amazon and can’t get through on your link to register for your free course. It keeps saying that maintenance is occuring and to check back in 15 minutes. No such luck. I hope you will consider this as my registration so that I can meet your May 2 midnight deadline, just in case the 15 minutes doesn’t clear up the maintenance problem.
Thanks,
Mary
Help please. I am getting email is already in system. But, when I use the username and password I tried to sign up with, it says invalid. Looking forward to this course.
Great list! Book ordered. Uncluttered started as I have been thinking about and working towards minimalism for a couple years now.
I am already the “weird” parent in what I do not buy for my kids – stuff and activities. I was raised much the same way and it worked then!
Interesting read on fear: I don’t want my safety, security, love and value based on stuff, it is grounded much more solidly on God, anyway. I need to keep this in my head!
And Amazon. Yes, that can be a problem because there is no waiting until the next day or even a short drive to the store.
Thanks for a great collection of reading. (And I cannot wait for your book … which I got off amazon. Ha.)
I keep getting database errors and trouble establishing a connection errors when trying to register for the course. I am not sure what to do.
I am getting the data base error also.
I am having the same problem.
I have having the same issue too
Would someone contact me? Bought the book and filled out the forms but just as I hit send I realized I had an error on the info I submitted. Thank you. Enjoy the weekend reads so much!
Thank You Joshua. I really appreciate your help & attention to getting my password reset. Success!
I’m very much looking forward to both your book & your class!
No problem. Resetting passwords has become a new hobby for me…
Just been and read some other comments and seen that I CAN still sign up from the UK. Very excited
Great! I’m glad you’ll be joining us.
Hi Joshua, I live in the UK, if I get preorder the book through Amazon UK can I still sign up to uncluttered for free?
The article on fear had a link to a George Carlin skit on “stuff”. One of my favorites and still makes me laugh until my stomach hurts! Thanks!
Is this a Christian program or is it a form of proselytizing?
The book contains 4 references to my Christian faith and how its stories have helped shape my view of minimalism. But it is not a Christian book (other than it was a written by a Christian author) and was not written for Christian audiences. It’s been endorsed by people from all sorts of different faith backgrounds. I think you’ll like it regardless of your faith background—it is similar to how I write on Becoming Minimalist.
I’m a Jew and have followed and read everything that Joshua has written and he mentions his faith in a way that people of ANY faith can relate to and appreciate.
I have not read the new book (since it isn’t out yet) but his other writings are not geared to proselytizing in the least.
I’ve signed up and went over to Facebook to join the group, but couldn’t get back to the joining instructions. I think there was a second action to complete. Could you remind me, please?
All of the information for signing up can be found on this page: http://my.becomingminimalist.com/first-step/
You site has inspired me to live more simply .
The Rick Newman piece doesn’t surprise me. The 2008 financial collapse, college debt and out of reach home prices have caused many to pause and consider what’s most important. Like experiences over stuff. Thanks for the reading selections.
Normally a fan of Leo, but that fear article you linked to is a bit too similar to the chalkboard scene with the crazy old teacher in Donnie Darko.
Today is the kind of Saturday where I think I really should have “minimized” my schedule. However. Concert weekends are what they are. :)
Thank you for curating another great collection of thought provoking articles, so that in my 15 minutes of stillness today I have something interesting to read.
What a lovely Saturday afternoon on my deck, eating a mango while my dogs sunbathe, and reading the pieces you selected. Thank you.
I am awaiting delivery of the book I purchased from Amazon. I can’t seem to register for the free course. …says I have an account and can’t go further…HELP!
I’m glad we could get you all set-up. The book releases on Tuesday and should be delivered right around then. I think you’re going to enjoy it.
Bought your book today on Amazon. Completed enrollment form with requested info. No luck completing the process. Please advise.
Looking forward to your class! It sounds both exciting & encouraging!
Your course is one of the fun things I’ve featured about April, Josh …
Getting the word out, anticipating some needed life change.
;-}
Thanks Linda. I appreciate that.
