The simplicity/minimalism niche is among the most friendly, encouraging, and helpful communities you will ever find. There is a genuine understanding that any promotion of simplicity is good for society—and there is little concern about who gets the credit for it.
It is a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful group of people. And I enjoy every opportunity to promote writing that encourages people to live more by owning less. So fix yourself a nice warm cup of coffee or tea. Find a quiet moment this weekend. And enjoy some encouraging words to inspire more simplicity in your life today.

On a personal note, I have some really exciting news to share with each of you on Tuesday morning, October 1st. I hope you’ll make a point to stop by early next week. It’s pretty big.

Like many before me, the closet is where it all started for me. Besides eliminating things I rarely wore, I eliminated the color blue. My pants are gray and black, my tops are few and colorful. By eliminating one color, I eliminated the need for matching accessories. I invite you to read about it (in German) at http://minimalismuswarum.wordpress.com/2013/08/30/schon-wieder-alle-kleiderbugel-im-gebrauch/

I read How we gain by having less earlier this week and thought it was very well written and I wholeheartedly agree with everything she talked about. I loved the article about wearing one outfit for an entire year– I think I need to work on simplifying my decisions and wardrobe too. It’s so easy to get caught up in those sorts of things and forget that objects and possessions don’t define you, your thoughts and actions do. Thanks for sharing great links!

I am so enjoying your facebook posts. Ever since my daughter-in-law & I went to your morning sessions at the Okoboji Bible Conferences. I have looked at what I have & need a much better light. I have shared what I heard with many friends. They all want to be at that place of minimalism, but are struggling with taking that first step. Daily I’m reminded of what I need, not what I want and to be content, thanks!

I really enjoyed the “why Louis C.K. hates cell phones” video. He manages to keep a serious, important topic on the light-and-funny side. “You know, that place deep down, that we try to distract ourselves from, that deep down forever-empty place that tells you you are alone and going to die”. Hm, I wonder if that will come off as funny when it’s taken out of context :)
The girl who wore one outfit for a year was inspiring. While I already consider myself a clothes minimalist, I’m inspired to do a similar experiment with my wardrobe. Thank you!

Thanks Char. I’m excited to share it.

These links are great, but when I click on one it takes me off your page instead of opening in a new window. Can you fix that? I’d like to stay on your page and navigate from that with open windows.
Just a suggestion.

Thanks for the comment Suzannah. You can open a story in a new window by using a right-click on the link and opening it in new tab.

Thank you so much for these links Joshua, as always. The one where Nadia shared her story of wearing just one outfit really spoke to me. I cut my small wardrobe down by 50% and to just 50 hangers but I think I’m going to give it another look through.
And I loved that Louis C.K. clip on Conan. Oh gosh I loved it. I don’t have a cell phone and stopped using a cell phone maybe five years ago. I get so many looks and comments on it about ‘how do I live without it?’ and yet there I am standing, living. But what he said about being alone hit another nerve of truth on the matter and I think we all could do a good bit of reflecting regarding our connection with technology and how to make that connection a good one, if at all we need it depending on what it is.
Thanks again!
