Hello Everybody,
Let’s try something different today and have a little bit of fun.
This past weekend, Becoming Minimalist reached a significant milestone I wanted to share with you.
We officially surpassed 100,000 email subscribers!
That’s a pretty impressive accomplishment worthy of celebration. It means more and more people are being introduced to the life-giving benefits of owning less. And it means our community and our movement continue to grow in significant ways.
Asking people to subscribe via email to receive updates from Becoming Minimalist has never been a huge priority for me. But recently, I’ve begun to change my thinking about that. For starters, there are many readers who appreciate the convenience of receiving an email whenever we publish new posts. I want to make sure readers know that is an option if that’s what they prefer.
Additionally, and equally important, I have just created a 10-day “getting started with minimalism” email sequence to people who subscribe. The sequence includes a PDF copy of my best-selling book, Simplify, as well as first steps people can take on their minimalism journey. It serves as a helpful touchpoint for people who discover the blog, find themselves interested in minimalism, and are ready to start owning less and living more.
If you would like to join the ever-growing email list to receive the free book and email sequence, click here.
For those who have already joined, all 100,000 of you, thank you for being a part of this encouraging community and providing opportunity for this celebratory post.
I’d like to offer a special thank you to everyone who reads Becoming Minimalist. Every month, we welcome over one million unique readers and our Facebook community has now grown to 800,000. These numbers are a credit to each of you who have so generously shared this blog and its articles with friends and family.
Thank you, thank you for supporting Becoming Minimalist and helping to share the inspiration!
To celebrate, I’m giving away 7 book bundles specifically to this community.

On a personal note, I am blown away by the stories that have been left in these comments. I have read as many as possible.
There are stories from readers who have been following this blog from the very beginning and stories of people who just found it last week. There are stories of people finding us through Facebook, through guest posts, through mentions in the media, through conversations with friends, through Netflix, through Google, and countless people who couldn’t remember exactly how they found it. It has been incredibly encouraging to me to read these stories from all over the world.
Thanks for being part of the conversation.
I have been trying to simplify and become a minimalist for a few years now and bought your book Simplify back in 2011 which helped start me on my journey.

Hi from a Chicago suburb! Your posts have changed my life. I can’t remember the exact article I read but I started to realize, do I really need ALL this stuff? My closet is walkable and my cabinets are no longer dangerous! Lol! Thank you!
Hello All,
I’m an American expat from Michigan living in Uzbekistan. I am addicted to this blog because I think that minimalism is the way forward for me as I continue to move around the world. I believe the first article that I read was something about creating a personal clothing uniform.
I am from Australia, a regional city in Victoria. I first encountered your blog through a connection from another blog as I was following up ideas about having more experiences than things. I loved that then, and while I am still on the path towards minimalism, I still do.
I have not commented before – one of those ‘silent’ legion of followers you have.
I’m from Chicago….a friend of mine shared one of your posts with me. I’ve been on the minimalist journey for awhile but could use some help with the mindset vs. just getting rid of stuff.
I’ve been reading (and loving!) every one of your articles for the last few years. I found you when I ‘googled’ info related to minimalism. I knew I was on the cusp of a big change at that time and although I’m very organized and declutter on a regular basis, I wanted to deepen my quest to have more of what I wanted (one example – the freedom I imagined from living with less stuff and being unencumbered by worldly possessions, etc), and less of what I didn’t want (e.g. physical clutter, visual clutter, debt, etc).
Thank you for being on this journey with me.
I’m from Houston TX and I was introduced to the website by doing the Bible Study on my Bible App!
Hi Joshua! I am from Massachusetts (GO PATRIOTS!) I love this blog. I have saved passages from it to read and re-read. My favorite, so far, has been the capsule wardrobe. This is an area I am focusing on getting right because being able to walk into a closet and not have stress and know what one is wearing will be a wonderful goal to achieve. I am working on it bit by bit. Thank you for all that you do and all that you have brought to us. God bless.

Driving or walking from Point A to Point B — so many temptations to ignore — the signs scream BUY ME! YOU NEED ME!! Now that I’m breaking the ADDICTIVE consumerism habit, I have more $$ for ME which equals more FREEDOM for me. And FREEDOM is priceless.
Thanks for reeling me in ….. saw you guys on Facebook. Thanks for your relentlessness, too.
Love your Blog. Love the inspiration! Its still very much a work in progress (and slow progress!) but I know where I want to go and am continue to work towards getting there. I have two daughters who love their stuff. I think one of the first links I read was “Why Fewer Toys Will Benefit Your Kids” Love it!
Thank you for all the inspiration you provide. My journey is ongoing, but I’m I’m committed and getting there!
Love your blog. Am just starting my journey with you. Looking forward to it!
After reading The More of Less I looked up your blog from the back of the book as I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I was seeking further encouragement which I found on your blog. Thanks for the giveaway.
I’m off to sign up via email. I prefer to read your blog directly daily to avoid cluttering up my email with subscriptions but a free copy of your book has me heading up to sign.
Forget to mention that I am in New Zealand.
Hi, I am from a small Northern city in Ontario, Canada. I just started reading your blog after years of trying to keep my four kids things clean and organized; never succeeding. I heard about you after watching the minimalist documentary on Netflix. The first post I read when I got to your site was Why fewer toys will actually benefit your kids. We revamped our backyard, and their playroom and now I cannot wait to tackle the rest of our house!
I am from Vancouver, WA, and I started reading “Becoming Minimalist” in Dec. of 2016. I had bought the book, the Joy of Less, on Amazon, and then got an email asking me if I would be interested in the Becoming Minimalist Newsletter. I tried it, and the first article I read was out of the Best of 2016. It was on the 5 word question to ask yourself before buying something. It caught my eye because shopping is my biggest problem. The question is “But what if I don’t?” I still not cured of shopping, but I have gotten it in control. Thanks!
I am starting the journey of minimalising my home and work space, I look forward to making these changes and simplifying my world.
I’m from Ontario, Canada and I think I was first introduced to your blog several years ago through Theartofsimple blog and have been following it since! Love it!
I am from Canberra, Australia. First started my minimalist journey after reading Simplify – and it is a journey – still a long way to go but feeling excited for what lies ahead!
Hey, all the way from the scorching hot city of Las Vegas! I started reading when I was about 16, I’m 18 now and I remember trying to get my entire family to follow a post that explained 7 steps for a more simple home way back when I first discovered this lifestyle.
I am from Austin, Minnesota and I randomly stumbled across the blog one day and then immediately spent the remainder of my day reading Simplify from beginning to end, which completely hooked me!
Thanks, I really don’t remember how I started reading this blog :-( but I still follow it so I guess I like it :-)
Hi! I’m from Pennsylvania, and love your site. I started following earlier this year, when I came across Allie Casazza, and fell in love with the minimalist idea. Your post about finding minimalism (in your garage) sticks with me. Thanks for all the great articles!
A friend shared you and your book with me over lunch after a yoga class, I have always been a minimalist at heart, now refining the few things I need to to live free in my mind. Michigan here.
You have opened my eyes on so much with your articles and talks! I thank you so much. I look forward to learning more.
God Bless you in all you do! ??❤️
