Fill your life with stories to tell, not stuff to show.
The simplicity/minimalism movement is a beautiful community. It is friendly, encouraging, and helpful. There is a genuine understanding that any promotion of simplicity is good for society—and there is little concern over who gets the credit.
It is a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful group of people. And I enjoy every opportunity to promote writing that encourages people to live more by owning less.
So fix yourself a nice warm cup of coffee or tea. Find a quiet moment this weekend. And enjoy some encouraging words to inspire more simplicity in your life today.
The Weight of Our Possessions | The Boston Globe by Peter Walsh. Could clutter be affecting your mental health and your waistline?
Why I Got Rid of My Wardrobe | Dallas Moms Blog by Denaye Barahona. “Pre-capsule, my wardrobe was like the Cheesecake Factory menu. It went on for days, was disorganized, and overwhelming.”
Four out of Five Children Don’t Recognize When They’re Being Advertised To | Quartz by Leo Mirani. Critical evaluation is a difficult task for sixth-graders, though an increasingly important one as social networks and online publishers inject subtle advertising into their content.
Why is My Phone About To Die | The Minimalists by Joshua Fields Millburn. Rarely does the blame belong to the material thing itself. The stuff is not the problem—we are.
The Ridiculously Thorough Guide to Decluttering Your Home | Budget Dumpster. I am proud to have contributed some material for this helpful guide.
Thank you for being such an inspiration! You’re blog is a goldmine for anyone who strives for simple living.
Thank you. I am surprised that some of the suggestions I have done on my own already. Great confirmations that clutter can cause stress and de-cluttering can (and has for me) reduced stress.
Is it possible to set-up the links to open in a new page instead of taking over this page? That way, I remember that I still have other links I want to visit and it doesn’t shut your page down when I open another one. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing! :)
Hi Joshua! Just got back from a mini vacation in beautiful Wisconsin! —-When I donate a heavy bag of clutter to Goodwill, I like to think about the actual weight being removed from my home. It’s a great feeling. :)
I like the minimalist design of your website. I used to had plans to rent a very small apartment and go minimalistic on it, but for some reason I forgot about it.
Great links! I love the thorough guide to decluttering. I know a lot of people who want to get started decluttering but don’t know where to start. I am offering a Simple Living Basics E-Course that will help people to implement these steps and create a community of support for those who want to get started decluttering. You can find it here: http://onlinetherapyandcoaching.org/simple-living-basics
Hi! New to your blog! I’m in the middle of reading the KonMari process book, and that ‘once in a lifetime’ decluttering. It is AMAZING how wonderful I’m feeling as I’m doing all of this. I’m so excited to read more, learn more, and get to finally living a more Zen existence because my home will only house my joyful items (and my hubby’s shit. LOL) Thanks!
Peter Walsh’s “Malignant Clutter” was powerful stuff! And I’ve always agreed with the concept “it’s not a gift, it’s a manipulation”. I have a friend who gifts me from Amazon all the time. If I don’t like it (and I often don’t) I just tape up the box, call Amazon to credit her account, and drop it off at the UPS store. Ah, if all gifts were that easy!
I love all the articles you post, they are always full of good info, and I daily try to take something away to help my process. OH MY IS IT A PROCESS, one bigger than I expected.
Sad thing is I never felt strong about possessions, yet you’d never know if you visited. UGH!
Keep the inspiration coming
I agree so profoundly….and am so afraid to peel the layers from this onion…but I will do it! 2015 items will leave my home in 2015, freeing space for more creativity and less weight! Thank you, Josh! I have needed this for 30 years! I an right with you, Jeanette!
