A noble thing is to “have or show fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.” And I think you are doing just that:
If you are working today to support yourself and your family—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are being a good neighbor—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are there for your friend when they need help or a listening ear—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are loving and raising your children in an intentional manner—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are taking steps today to steward well the planet we live upon—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are contributing to your community in positive ways rather than harming it with destructive behavior—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are offering kind words today—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are making life easier for those who are suffering—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are pursuing the interests of others rather than looking only to your own interests—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are using talents and skills at your workplace to serve others—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are an example of discipline and perseverance to others—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are taking steps today to become more than you were yesterday—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are hugging your child and expressing your love—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are doing the laundry, washing the dishes, cleaning the floors, scrubbing the toilet, or picking up a mess that isn’t yours—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are showing respect and honor to your parents and elders—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are fighting to overcome an unhealthy addiction in your life—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are displaying compassion and patience—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you are engaging in conversation with a desire to understand rather than persuade—
you are doing a noble thing.
If you practicing honesty when dishonesty might be easier—
you are doing a noble thing.
You are doing a noble thing with your life. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you for your service to help others. Your blog is making a beautiful difference in my life.
I saw this post when you first published it. I was having a bad day at home with my baby. This post picked me back up. Thank you!
What a great post. Very nice article, Joshua. Little gestures in our daily life done with sincerity reminds us of noble things. …
What a lovely article :)
I know when i have had a very bad time or day just a little smile is enough from someone to make me think its going to be ok, or i am accepted or enough,
so i try to pass on smiles to people too, ok its not massive, but a smile from someone has helped me carry on, so i would like to say, please don,t under estimate small acts of kindness,
if i havn,t got much to give and its all i have thats enough, i have stopped comparing
love Jacqueline excellent blog xx
I loved this! What a great reminder that it is the way we handle the little day to day things in life that really count. These are the things that show our true character and station in life, not the size of our bank account. Thanks for another truly encouraging post!
I really need to hear this today. Thank you, thank you. I will be posting this on my wall at home and at work as inspiration to keep on keeping on…
These are great reminders of the small things we do in life and the their great significance. It’s a great way to keep us grounded. Great post!
After study a number of of the blog posts on your website now, and I really like your approach of blogging. I bookmarked it to my bookmark website checklist and will likely be checking again soon. Pls take a look at my web site as nicely and let me know what you think.
Brilliant, encouraging, worth sharing (which I did), human, interesting, supporting – you did a noble thing!
Thank you!
If you are writing this post to encourage others–
You are doing a noble thing.
This is a great post! Good reading and insights! A realization that most of the things we are doing are noble. I didn’t think of them this way. Now I know better…
Thanks for these beautiful words, Joshua. All the things to do mentioned above are too often neglected nowadays. They are neglected because of all the buzz around us in two ways. On the one hand we pretend not being able to do them anymore because we don’t have time. On the other hand we are sometime numb to other doing them to us. Minimalism is about using your time wisely and listening to your inner voice again. And in this ways, can make you a more noble person again. Cheers from The Elementarist!
You did something good. You shared this beautiful piece. Thank you for this gentle reminder.
Loved this. There is some nobility in everyone. We only have to slow down and witness it. Thank you for this gift, Joshua.
This is different, and I loved it =)
Love this encouragement, Joshua. Although my mission is to offer hope and encouragement to others there are days, like yesterday – sad days – that I find myself needing a kind voice myself. Thank you.
Thank you…I need to read this daily. Even though I do make an effort every day to do many things on this list, I often feel like I haven’t done enough. Do I have to feel miserable (exhausted? overwhelmed? stressed out?) before I feel like I have earned the right to say I have “done enough?” I don’t think so. But I do need a reminder like this one.
Do I have to feel miserable (exhausted? overwhelmed? stressed out?) before I feel like I have earned the right to say I have “done enough?”
very well said andrea. summed up my daily living in one question. such a good thing to address in our lives, and not next week, or next year… now.
I wrote a post about this that resonated loudly with many people. I am adding a link just in case you want to check it out: http://www.alifeinprogress.ca/?p=1065 (What if all I want is a Mediocre Life?). If it is inappropriate to share a link here, Joshua, please let me know.
We can’t hit a home run every day. Every day is not about amazing accomplishments, but consistently showing up, doing the best you can, and giving amazing accomplishment a chance to happen out of overall positive circumstances that came about through the disciplined efforts over a long period.
I needed this encouragement today. Thank you.
Many times I think what I’m doing is insignificant when compared to others. I look around me and see all these people who seem to be so much more important doing things that dwarf my tiny accomplishments. It often feels like the things I’m doing are worthless.
This post is a beautiful reminder that those little things are noble, too. Thanks for the encouragement, Joshua.
If we consume little today, tomorrow and the next day– we are doing a noble thing. Every day it is the little things that matter. Wonderful post!
Yes!
I’ve been going through a rough transitional period in my life and really working on the person I am and how I want to live my life. This was an inspirational read for me.
After mistakenly reading my fb and ig feeds, I felt like my life was boring and insignificant compared to other based on their posts. This article helped me reaffirm the significance of my existence too. Thank you for this lovely post.
Sometimes we are so busy looking at the bigger picture that we forget the bigger picture will only come when we pay attention to the smaller picture in the here and now.
These sometimes small things we do, are the big things in life. They are the way we interact with our community around us. How we weave in amongst it. How we strengthen it with our presence.
xx
Always nice to look at the big picture in life and remember we are a benefit to society, our community and our family. Thanks for the inspiring post!
There’s an applicable John C. Maxwell quote: “Every person has a longing to be significant; to make a contribution; to be a part of something noble and purposeful.” What I like about your post is the reminder that nobility can be found in everyday things, like “being a good neighbor.” Thanks Joshua.
So inspiring Joshua. Found this post during a low moment of what otherwise has been a great day. Perfect timing for such a read, thank you!
